This air comes from a very sad sean nós song written by Tomás Ó Casaide in the 1700’s. Tomás was studying to become a friar but was dismissed from the friary when he fell in love with a woman. I first learnt this song from the incredible singing of Josie Sheáin Jeaic Mac Donncha but more recently heard Caitlín Ní Mhéalóid’s lovely version and I suppose the melody I’m playing is a blend of the two.

Absolutely sensational - love the generally low-end tones and planxty-esque set up, but most of all the incredible energy of it! Wish more instrumental trad was like this, love the fact that it's recorded live too. Prangman
